In December of 2013 Carl Hess began the portrait of Maya Angelou. In the spring of 2014 Hess completed the iconic portrait and Maya Angelou’s representatives coordinated a presentation date. Unfortunately, the beautiful soul of Maya Angelou went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2014.

 

The family of Maya Angelou graciously accepted the painting as a treasure that will be cherished in their family forever.
